I think it was U2’s Achtung Baby! release in 1991 when I took notice of producer Flood. I started looking through my CD collection and saw his name listed enough of my favorite releases that I started digging to put a catalog of his work together.
Some notable bands he had worked with included: Cabaret Voltaire, Nick Cave, Charlatans UK, Cranes, Cure, Curve, Depeche Mode, Elastica, Erasure, P.J. Harvey, Jesus and Mary Chain, Tom Jones, Massive Attack, Ministry, New Order, Nine Inch Nails, Nitzer Ebb, Pop Will Eat Itself, Renegade Soundwave, Smashing Pumpkins, Sneaker Pimps, Soft Cell, U2 and Wolfgang Press. Those bolded were those already in my collection. Needless to say I was impressed and decided to share my research on my first website called Razorsedge.Net.
Imagine my surprise when my favorite artist (to this day) Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails wrote to share a picture of Flood. Above is the image he sent.
What a great way to mess with someone you work with but to send a terrible picture to the guy running the only resource for information about him online. Naturally I tried to write Trent Reznor back and naturally I never heard from him again, but I thought this was still a fun thing worth sharing.
